About Me

I am a former Midwesterner who stumbled into both government work and life in our Nation's Capitol.

After growing up in the Chicago-land area, I went to Illinois Wesleyan University where I majored in International Business and History. Post-graduation, I worked as a retail manager and in insurance sales for a major property-casualty insurance company before leaving the professional world - and Illinois - to attend Saint Louis University School of Law.

I loved living in St. Louis and planned to stay there indefinitely but was encouraged to apply for the Presidential Management Fellows program by my career counselor. I became one of 4% of candidates selected in 2011.

For first appointment, I moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It turned out Texas was a tough place for my family to live (all the allergies!) so my husband and I moved to Washington, DC where I began working for the Department of Health and Human Services in 2013.

Turns out DC suits me best. I love living in a smaller city that offers everything you find in one much larger. Having lots to do suits my personality best and this city is chock full of things to do every day. From author talks to concerts to book clubs to new restaurants to SoulCycle classes, there is always something on my calendar.

Mentoring
Both inside and outside of the office, I am passionate about mentoring the next generation of leaders. I serve as a mentor through GovLoop and Young Government Leaders official mentoring programs. I also help anyone who asks and speak on the topic of mentoring at GovLoop's annual NextGeneration of Government Summit.

Volunteering
Volunteering is an important part of my life and has been for many years. Some of my earliest memories include serving others alongside my family. As an adult, I have consistently made service a part of my life.

I joined Alpha Phi Omega when I was a Sophomore in college and performed over 250 hours of community service in two and a half years, including serving on the board. After graduating, I continued to assist college students in managing their chapters.

During law school I worked at St. Louis University's legal clinic helping foster children and volunteered at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri helping domestic violence survivors. I also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

Currently, I volunteer on the Advisory Panel of Young Government Leaders (YGL). During my over ten years with YGL, I have served as Acting President, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer and Chief of Staff.
